Doug is our resident waterbender. With his solid foundation in the science of hydraulics from a career building fire engines, he got his start in special effects designing an impressive 20m high water spurt effect and developing Cape Town’s first rain rig. After decades of experience on seven shark movies, a crocodile movie, Poseidon Adventure and The Flood, he won an Emmy for his water effects-heavy work on Black Sails and was nominated for a VES Award for his work in Outlander’s “Eye of the Storm”. Although you could never get him to admit it, he is undoubtedly the best in the industry.

All-Inclusive Overhead Rain

The addition of the International Ladder Truck to our fleet has allowed us to innovate and improve the way we have always made overhead rain. This truck provides an all-inclusive and flexible solution. Our overhead rain rig mounted to the end of the extended ladder allows for easily varying the height of the rain rig, all while the rig is fed from the trucks own pumps and water tank. The ladder also allows technicians to access most of the rig while in the air, preventing the halting of filming and saving time. Gone are the days of separately-billed manitous chained to static dams for water supply!
